Research Title: Dismantling Accessibility Barriers Between Visually Impaired Social Media Users and Digital Art

Being conducted by: Rochester Institute of Technology

Purpose of the Study

The purpose of this research study is to gain a better understanding of the digital art consumption habits of internet users who are blind or visually impaired. To do this, we will analyze current methods for engaging with digital artwork, accessibility barriers encountered during the process, and user needs and desires for future assistive technologies.

Role of the Participants and Anticipated Length of the Study

Participants will take a fully accessible 10-15 minute long survey about their experiences with digital art. At the end of the survey, participants may choose to leave their contact information for a follow-up interview and screen-sharing activity. The interview will ask participants to elaborate on their answers from the survey and share a piece of artwork that they recently found on the internet. The session will last 45-60 minutes and take place over Zoom.

Proposed Participant Compensation

Yes, Participants who complete the interview session will receive $10 through Venmo, PayPal, or a similar payment platform.
