Hi listers,

You might already know this, but the Washington seminar for the NFB starts on January 30, 2023 in Washington, D.C. The issues for this year’s visit to our senators and representatives has been announced by President Riccobono now. Our 2023 legislative agenda has three issues. They are:

1. Websites and Software Applications Accessibility Act
2. Medical Device Nonvisual Accessibility Act
3Eliminating the SSDI Earnings Cliff.

The first two issues have been with us for a few years, but not the third. We will be proposing a bill to Congress that will eliminate the SSDI earnings cliff and instead institute a gradual phase-out of benefits based on income. This will incentivize more blind and disabled Americans to find more fulfilling, better-paying jobs without fear of completely losing all of their SSDI benefits if they cross a specific earnings threshold.

There is and will be a lot more on all of our legislative agenda on the NFB web site. We all should get up to speed on these issues, and get ready to do our part even if we aren’t going to D.C. in late January. We will need to contact our senators and our specific representatives ASAP to voice our support and answer any questions they have. We want co-sponsors for all of these issues/bills.

Get ready. This could be a banner year for us.
