[gui-talk] Screenreaders

Sometimes, I will be working in windows 7 and everything will just freeze.
I thought this computer was powerful enough and had enough memory that it
wouldn't do that. Usually, the only thing I can do is push the power
button, which is a problem in itself, since this computer is so quiet, I
have to get down on the floor and put my ear on it. But what would make it
freeze like that? Also, in windows live mail, I will work for a while and
then I suddenly can't read any more messages. When I enter on a message, it
says custom control and then won't let me read the message. I thought it
thought I was replying to the message for some reason, but when I do control
shift a to see if browse mode is on, it doesn't say or do anything. The
only choice I have is to turn the computer off, or go into xp mode and
outlook express to continue doing email. Pam.

Kris:

Yes, System Access works fine with Windows-7. However, I suspect that the
problem may well be your relative unfamiliarity with Windows 7 rather than
with JAWS. To be sure, occasionally Windows 7 hangs for thirty seconds or so
but, contrary to the experiences of some, I've encountered these hang-ups
with both System Access and NVDA. What version of JAWS are you using?

As an aside, my objection to System Access is one some others might see as
an advantage: an application is left in your system tray in addition to the
screen-reader itself which monitors your system, updates the screen-reader
automatically and provides convenient access to other System Access services
such as SAMnet. Thanks but no thanks. I want changes made if and only if I
say so. (Windows Update is an exception but even it is irritating).
