I think one should be very careful while commenting on new devices using his 
or her experience from the 70s. Some of these devices and solution have 
changed a lot. I used Miniguide and use Minitact (a French infrared obstacle 
detector) and I like both. They are useful. I think laser is better than 
ultrasounds although has some limitations too, but I wouldn't criticise the 
device - I haven't held it. The only thing one can say  - I think - is that 
when you want to use a long range these 50 degrees will give you a lot of 
signals. However the colour detection may be useful in some cases if it 
works well.
