Mon, 16 Nov 2009 02:00:00 -0600

Local bus changes start Nov. 29; Swift, commuter bus changes start Nov. 30

Snohomish County, Wash. - Community Transit's twice annual changes to bus
service usually take months of planning and preparation. The changes that
start on Nov. 29 and 30, however, have been years in the making.

Plans to create the state's first bus rapid transit line were adopted by
Community Transit's board of directors in 2005. Four years later, Swift bus
rapid transit is a reality.

On Nov. 29 some Community Transit local routes will see changes to schedules
and routing as adjustments are made to make the service more efficient, as
well as adjust to the introduction of Swift service.

On Nov. 30, some Community Transit commuter service to King County will see
adjustments, and Swift bus rapid transit will officially begin its regular
service on the Highway 99 corridor. Swift will operate between Everett and
Shoreline every 10-minutes weekdays and every 20-minutes nights and
weekends. Swift is a partnership between Community Transit and Everett
Transit, and its launch will result in major changes to both bus systems.

In addition to the route changes that start Nov. 29 and 30, Community
Transit will open its new Marysville at Cedar and Grove Park & Ride with the
start of service on Monday, Nov. 30. The facility has 213 parking spaces,
plus additional parking for motorcycles and bicycles. Other park & rides in
Marysville are at capacity.

With the service change, Community Transit has simplified its printed and
online schedules. The new Bus Plus schedule and map book uses more recycled
paper and was redesigned to save 30 percent in printing costs. Quantities
were reduced because many people get schedules online, which can now be
printed with one easy click. Other features recently added to the website
are a full list of all bus stops by route as well as detailed service
information for each stop, Google map links to show park & ride locations,
and an interactive Swift map.

Major bus service changes that start Nov. 29 and 30 are listed below. For

Service to Downtown Everett

To eliminate duplicate service in downtown Everett and provide faster access
to Swift and other regional transportation connections at Everett Station,
most buses will serve Everett Station directly and will no longer make a
loop through downtown Everett. To reach downtown Everett by bus, passengers
may transfer to frequent Swift or Everett Transit service.

Route 100: This limited, peak hour service on the Highway 99 corridor will
be replaced by Swift.

Route 101: Route 101 will continue to serve all local bus stops along the
Swift route south of Airport Road, including local stops adjacent to each
Swift station for easy connections. Since most of Route 101 shares the same
roadway as Swift, so the number of trips will be reduced on weekdays from
one every 15 minutes to one every 20 minutes. Weekend service remains the
same.

Routes 105/106: Service in Bothell on Routes 105/106 will begin and end at
the UW Bothell Campus. Customers currently continuing on to downtown Bothell
and the Bothell Park & Ride can transfer to Community Transit Routes
120/121, King County Metro Routes 238, 312, 372 or Sound Transit Routes 522
and 535.

Route 114: Route 114 will be replaced by Route 116. All Route 114 trips
become Route 116 trips, simplifying the system and increasing direct service
to Edmonds Community College. Service on 196th Street SW between Highway 99
and 68th Avenue W will still be available on Route 118.

Routes 118, 131: The one-way routing Edmonds on 76th and 74th will be moved
to 72nd Avenue, bringing buses closer to Edmonds Park & Ride and Swift
service on Highway 99. Bus stops on 74th Avenue will be eliminated; stops on
76th Avenue will continue to be served by Routes 112 and 406.

Route 177: Beginning Nov. 30, Everett Transit will operate this service
between the Mukilteo ferry terminal and Boeing as Route 70 Express. Fares,
routing and schedule remain the same.

Route 190: To accommodate high demand in the morning, a new southbound trip
to Edmonds Community College is being added at 11:03 a.m. The trip will
begin at Beverly Park Road & Highway 525, not Mukilteo Ferry. The evening
trip from Edmonds Community College at 7:35 p.m. will be cancelled.

Route 200: All trips will stay on Broadway before serving Everett Station.
Route 200 will serve stops on Broadway between Wall and Pacific streets, a
few blocks from the Snohomish County Campus. See schedules for minor time
adjustments.

Routes 270, 271, 275 and 280: Most trips will start and end at Everett
Station with no service through Everett's downtown loop. However, to provide
service for downtown commuters, select morning and afternoon trips will
continue to directly serve the Everett Central Business District. The
following morning trips will end at Hewitt & Lombard and serve stops on
Wetmore and Pacific after serving Everett Station:

. Route 270 to Everett departing Gold Bar at 6:05 a.m., arriving at
Hewitt & Lombard at approximately 7:17 a.m.

. Route 275 to Everett departing Monroe at 6:45 a.m., arriving at
Hewitt & Lombard at approximately 7:46 a.m.

. Route 280 to Everett departing Granite Falls at 6:20 a.m. and 7:04
a.m. and arriving at Hewitt & Lombard at approximately 7:17 a.m. and 8:01
a.m. respectively

. The following afternoon trips will begin at Hewitt & Lombard and
serve stops on Wetmore and Pacific before serving Everett Station:

. Route 275 to Monroe departing Hewitt & Lombard at 4:36 p.m.

. Route 270 to Gold Bar departing Hewitt & Lombard at 5:07 p.m.

. Route 280 to Granite Falls departing Hewitt & Lombard at 4:36 p.m.
and 5:05 p.m.

Route 821: This route will begin and end at the new

east of State Avenue will be discontinued, including service to the United
Methodist Church Park & Pool. Riders can take Route 421 buses to connect

In addition, the following routes have schedule changes of five minutes or
more:

Weekdays: 101, 201, 202, 222, 270, 271, 275, 280, 424
