Research Title: Exploring the Experiences of Blind and Low-Vision Youth with Generative AI
Being conducted by: The University of Texas at San Antonio
Purpose of the Study
The purpose of this study is to understand how blind and low-vision youth use generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and other AI chatbots, in their everyday lives. We hope to learn what types of tasks they use these tools for, what benefits they experience, and what challenges, risks, or concerns they may encounter while using them. The study will help us better understand how generative AI tools can be designed and used in ways that are more accessible, safe, and supportive for blind and low-vision youth.
Role of the Participants and Anticipated Length of the Study
Participants will take part in a remote interview about their experiences using generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, or other AI chatbots/AI companions. During the interview, we will ask about how they use these tools, what they find helpful, and any challenges, risks, or concerns they have experienced. The interview is expected to take approximately an hour for each participant. Participants’ identities will be kept confidential, and any reports or publications from the study will not include names or other directly identifying information.
Proposed Participant Compensation
Yes, Participants who complete the interview will receive a $50 Amazon gift card as a thank-you for their time. Compensation will be provided after the interview is completed.
