Research Title: Living in an AI-Filtered Reality: Unshareable Experiences and Moral Burden in Assistive and Generative AI Use by Blind and Low-Vision Users
Being conducted by: University of Texas at San Antonio
Purpose of the Study
This study explores how blind and low-vision (BLV) individuals experience failures in AI-powered assistive technologies. We aim to understand what happens when AI systems provide inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading information, how these experiences affect users socially and emotionally, and how they influence trust and continued use of assistive AI. We also hope to identify design recommendations for improving future AI-powered accessibility tools.
Role of the Participants and Anticipated Length of the Study
Participants will complete a one-on-one semi-structured interview conducted remotely via Zoom. During the interview, participants will be asked about their experiences using AI-powered assistive technologies, including situations in which AI-generated information was inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading. The interview is expected to take approximately 60–75 minutes.
Proposed Participant Compensation
Yes, Participants who complete the interview will receive a $30 Amazon e-gift card as a token of appreciation.
