Hi Yu,

I just learned about your AI job interviewing tool study and I would be
interested in participating. I am a totally blind full-time senior
accessibility support engineer. I look forward to hearing from you if you
are interested in my perspectives.

Thanks,

Innovation: Technology is not innovative if it is not accessible. In fact,
it is unintentionally ableist, or even racist or misogynistic, when
technology is designed without inclusion as a first principle. And being
ableist is not innovative at all. Being ableist is an outdated way of doing
things. Choose not to be outdated. Be intentionally innovative and include
people with disabilities throughout your project lifecycle, starting from
the beginning in the design and planning stages.

Research Participation Request: Understanding the experiences of people with
disabilities with AI-based video hiring tools

research mission.

Research Title: Understanding the experiences of people with disabilities
with AI-based video hiring tools

Being conducted by: University of Maryland, College Park

Purpose of the Study

With the development of AI, automated video interviews have become more
widely used by companies. However, the representations of people with
disabilities are usually missing when developers build powerful AIs, so
hiring systems can be further biased against people with disabilities.

In this study, we aim to understand how people with disabilities might be
perceived differently in those automated AI hiring systems. We will conduct
mock interviews with people with disabilities and evaluate the system
behaviors on the videos we collect. We hope our findings will help both the
technical community to be aware of potential fairness issues and the
accessibility community to understand more about the black-box AI tools.

Role of the Participants and Anticipated Length of the Study

During the study, they will participate in a mock interview where they will
need to answer behavioral and situational questions. An example question
might be: "Can you describe a time when you needed to explain a complex or
technical idea to a nontechnical or unfamiliar audience? How did you
approach the situation?"

The mock interview will be conducted online via Zoom, and the session will
be video recorded for analysis. The interview is expected to take
approximately 50-60 minutes to complete.

Proposed Participant Compensation

Yes, Participants will receive a $50 gift card as compensation.
