KNFB Reader Integrated with Dropbox, Available for Android
Baltimore, Maryland (November 20, 2015): The
<https://nfb.org>National Federation of the Blind
(NFB), in conjunction with Sensotec NV, is
pleased to announce that the KNFB Reader is now
available for Android devices. Released for iOS
in 2014, the KNFB Reader app uses optical
character recognition (OCR) technology to take a
picture of printed text using the built-in
cameras available on smart phones and tablets and
convert it into speech. Now, in response to
popular demand, we are proud to bring the reader to the Android platform.
In addition to the Android version of the app, we
have added new features to the iOS app. One of
the most exciting of these is integration with
the popular file storage, sharing, and
collaboration platform, Dropbox. Now, when users
scan a document with the KNFB Reader, it can be
instantly saved in a Dropbox folder tied to the
users account. Users can even retrieve documents
from Dropbox after they are deleted from their
smart phone or other device. Other features
include stand scan mode, which is used to scan
large numbers of pages, and the ability for
Android users to try the app before buying.
Mark A. Riccobono, President of the National
Federation of the Blind, said: The KNFB Reader
is already a worldwide success for its
outstanding optical character recognition
technology. We are now striving to make the app
more functional and useful in everyday life
across multiple platforms and devices. We are
proud that this life-changing app is now
available to users of Android devices, and we
believe that integration with Dropbox will make
the app dramatically more useful by allowing for
the easy storage and retrieval of scanned
documents without taking up valuable space on
users phones. We will continue working to make
the KNFB Reader an indispensable app for blind
people and others who cannot read print the world over.
Arden Hoffman, Dropboxs global head of HR,
added: "At Dropbox we've been working to raise
awareness of accessibility in everything we do,
from how we recruit to how we make products, with
the goal of building global technology that's
usable by all people. We're thrilled to integrate
with the KNFB Reader, an app that utilizes the
best in accessibility tech, to take the next step towards this goal."

About the National Federation of the Blind
The National Federation of the Blind knows that
blindness is not the characteristic that defines
you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low
expectations create obstacles between blind
people and our dreams. You can live the life you
want; blindness is not what holds you back.
About Dropbox
Dropbox's mission is to simplify the way people
work together. With 400 million users, we're
building the world's simplest, most powerful
collaboration platform. For more information,
