Email Message Concerning NAGDU Seminar 2011
Would you like to be better prepared for screening at
Transportation
Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints and have the opportunity to
ask questions and share concerns with TSA? Would you like to learn
more about in-flight emergency procedures from a veteran Flight
Attendant? Then the seminar of the National Association of Guide Dog
Users (NAGDU) is the place to be!
On Tuesday, July 5, NAGDU will present "The blind Air
Traveler", an exciting, literally "hands-on", interactive workshop.
Whether you are a guide dog user or not, the information shared will
help you better maneuver through airport security checkpoints and
handle in-flight emergencies, so all blind air travelers will want to
attend. Peg Slater, a veteran Flight Attendant, will better prepare
you in the event you face an emergency situation in-flight. Peg will
demonstrate how to use airline oxygen masks, how to use the seat
cushion as a flotation device, how to inflate your personal
floatation device (PFD), how to open the emergency exit door (even
though we cannot sit in that row!), and the proper way to use the
evacuation slide. Jeremy Buzzell, Senior Policy Advisor for the TSA's
Office of Disability Policy and Outreach, will discuss TSA's security
procedures and technology, screening of disabled individuals, as well
as their service animals, how to resolve issues that arise during
screening, and how to file a complaint with TSA. In addition to these
stimulating workshops, you will learn more about NAGDU's innovative
initiatives, hear news from the various guide dog training programs,
and have an opportunity to "test drive" a guide dog!
The NAGDU seminar will be held in the Panzacola H-3
Ballroom, Level 1. Registration begins at 6:00 pm and the workshop
begins at 7:00. The seminar is free to all who wish to attend;
however, donations will be appreciatively accepted. NAGDU will also
hold a 50/50 drawing at the end of its meetings and take up a
collection to defray the cost of the guide dog relief areas.
In addition to Tuesday's workshop, NAGDU will hold its
annual business meeting on Sunday, July 3 in the Panzacola H-3
Ballroom, Level 1. During the business meeting, participants will
learn more about NAGDU's Information & Advocacy Hotline, our Consumer
Satisfaction Survey, hear about legal cases involving guide dog
users, get affiliate division reports, elect officers & Board
members, and receive reports from guide dog training programs.
Registration for the business meeting begins at 6:00 pm and the
meeting begins at 7:00.
