[nfbcs] Computer Shutting off During the Night

Hello Peter. You don't say how old the computer is that's shutting
down, but one symptom of a failing power supply is that the computer shuts
down after runing for a while while seeming to run fine between these
incidents. As the power supply wears, these "shutdowns" will come more
frequently, until it shuts itself down while you're actually sitting in
front of it one day. My guess is that it's shutting down while it's
running some nightly check for updates or cleanings or something that causes
it to use more power, i.e. while doing a disk check or some intensive CPU
work. If the computer is old, you mayconsider retiring it in favor of a
new one. Otherwise, I'm guessing you can get a new power supply and fix it
up for somewhere between $50 and $100.

} computer running 24/7. Until last week this hasn't been a problem. Several
} mornings last week including this morning we came down stairs to find that
} Mary's computer had shut itself off during the night. It was necessary to

} able to run the computer overnight without problems. We may just have to
} shut it down manually before we go to bed until a technician can check it
} out. Someone is supposed to come on Friday to troubleshoot this issue along
} with some issues with some of our other devices. I've heard of computers
} shutting down by themselves unexpectedly so this is not new to me. I'd be
} curious to know if there are any settings I can check that may be
} responsible for this behavior. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
