Good afternoon John and everyone,
I'm currently writing this note on the effected machine. Once I got it back
up and running this morning
it's been rrunninglike usual. It's been a year since it was blown out and
cleaned something the
technician will do when they come next week. We had to replace the hard
drive last year at wich time
the machine was serviced. This problem began occurring last week.
The computer stays running well into the night. It's left
running when I go to bed anywhere from
12:30 to 2:00 a.m. When issued Windows 7 runs an update at 3 in the morning.
When my wife gets up
to leave for work the machine has still been on so she can do what she needs
to do. Whenever this
happened it has occurred after 6:00 a.m. It most likely did the same thing
this morning but is fine now.
The case feels cool to the touch but Time-Warner's modem is
quite warm. We've been having
issues with our wireless connection going down whenever we use our laptop or
iDevices. I intend to
contact Time-Warner after I finish this message so they can get a technician
out here to check this
modem and switch it out if necessary. The modem issue may have nothing to do
with this computer
shutting down but there's always that possibility. We've already had
time-Warner out here for the
connection issue multiple times all to no avail. The only thing they haven't
done is change out the
modem. Let's see what happens.

I nominate over heating as a prime candidate. Points against it are that it
is occuring in the middle of the
night when the computer is not being used and when the environment is
probably at it's coolest. Is the
machine doing anything in the middle of the night? Heavy backups?
Downloading updates?
I would open it up and clean it out. Especially make sure the fans aren't
blocked by dust anddog hair.
