[GUI-Talk] slow internet speed

Yet another testament to Verizon's lousy service.   Spectrum Internet is
not lousy at all.  It is actually quite fast, at least comparable to
FIOS.  I can download a 10 hour book from BARD in less than 10 seconds.
And their customer service is light years ahead of Verizon.  At least
all of Spectrum's service agents are based in the US and speak English,
unlike Verizon's service agents, who are all based in a bunker overseas
and speak heavily accented English which is difficult to understand, if
you can even connect to an agent in the first place.  Their brain dead
bozos will insist that your Internet service is fine, even if you can't
get a connection.  How would these idiots know whether your Internet
service is working okay if they are stationed 5000 miles away? And when
you have a problem with Spectrum's Internet or cable TV service, you can
call them and get a technician to visit you the same day, usually within
four hours of your call.  With Verizon, you're lucky if you can get a
technician to visit you within a week.  Verizon screwed itself big time
by signing a contract with the city to wire all five boroughs for FIOS,
because they never anticipated that a lot of landlords and property
owners were already satisfied with Time Warner Cable (now Spectrum), and
had no intention of granting Verizon permission to wire their properties
for FIOS and creating a tangled mess of cables.  The city is suing
Verizon for breach of contract for failing to meet its deadline for
wiring the entire city for FIOS, and in the end, Verizon will probably
have to write off the billions it wasted on this misguided project.
They laid FIOS trunk lines under many major streets, but now cannot
obtain permission to connect them to apartment buildings.  How stupid is
that?  It's like building a subway line to nowhere.  Most landlords of
prewar apartment buildings in Manhattan has had longstanding
relationship  with Spectrum and its predecessors, and so they have no
intention of switching their tenants to FIOS and giving up lucrative
arrangements and sweetheart deals that have been in place for decades.
On top of which, FIOS is more expensive than Spectrum Internet, so why
would Spectrum customers want to switch to FIOS?  In many parts of
Manhattan, Verizon DSL is so slow, and FIOS is not available, that
anyone who wants high-speed Internet service has no choice but to sign
up with Spectrum. It's just one big mess.
