Wow, seems like even more reason that law should better support "free" local channel access over internet.

If I see a working method for getting to local channels over internet I'll be happy to post for others use, but it seems the war is on over this content access.

Frankly the only content which is hard to get at is local news, the rest seems like you can find on the internet one way or another, hulu, Netflix, some streaming from local stations is almost always available if delayed too.

For the most part I've accepted radio as alternative to TV news and it seems to serve me well enough--but I kind of miss easy flip the remote on and get local news. On the other hand, less focus on shootings and accidents on radio it seems--no pictures to suck viewers interest in so less emphasis.

Since on air TV is supposed to be free I'm baffled with the whole notion that rebroadcasting is a problem--but can see the issue with charging extra for rebroadcasting of free content. I just think free broadcast must allow free internet access as well for those who don't have easy over air access. I don't think lowest cable rates for local channels only is often less than broadband internet either so that equation is messed up in terms of actual fairness to customers.

Here in New York City, most landlords forbid the installation of rooftop antennas on their apartment buildings. They receive kickbacks and incentives from the cable companies to insure that their tenants can only receive TV reception by signing up for cable service. Even window-mounted satellite dishes are prohibited.
