I just learned from another list about a new, free phone service called TeleTender that allows blind users in the US and Canada to access news, weather and Facebook, set alarms and reminders, send and receive email messages, browse the web and participate in chat rooms by calling a local access phone number. This service is similar to the Net Echo and Net By Phone services, but there is no charge except the cost of the call. This service works with any land-line or cell phone, and if there is not yet a local access phone number in your area, you can email TeleTender and they will try to add one. That's what I did, and now there is a local access number in my area, which is New York City. This service could be useful if you don't have access to your computer and don't own an IPhone or other smart phone. For more info, check it out:
