[gui-talk] Just getting started with Windows 8

Hello Tammy,

Here is some comments I made to another list about Windows 8.

---
I have recently purchased the Microsoft Surface Pro 2 with a 256 GB SSD for
$1300. This machine is small, light, fast, and powerful. You can carry it
in one hand. If you pair it with a Braille display, you will have a
powerful combination. It runs Windows 8.1 and Outlook 2013. While Outlook
has minor accessibility issues, generally you will not have any issues. I
use JAWS 15 and a Humanware Brailliant Display Bluetooth connected to the
computer.

On my surface pro 2, I use narrator to get through the login screen. When I
used JAWS for this screen, my computer does not talk about 1/3 of the time.
To turn on the computer, push the power button for about a half second, wait
15 seconds, hit windows + enter to bring up narrator, wait for narrator to
finish talking, hit tab to go to the password field, enter the password and
hit enter. I have JAWS automatically start in the main window. I do not
have narrator starting in the main window. Currently you are on the touch
screen. Hit windows + m or windows + d to go to the desktop, and you are
good to go with the same desktop as in Windows 7.

Windows + enter brings up and stops narrator.

After Tuesday's release of Windows 8.1 service pack 1, you probably will be
able to boot directly into the desktop.

I highly recommend this machine and Windows 8.

Subject: [gui-talk] Just getting started with Windows 8

Hello!
I am just getting started with a Windows 8, HP laptop and wanted to know if
there are some settings that need to be changed to make it more accessible?
If so, would you please share them with me? I have Jaws 15 I can put on it.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
