[gui-talk] New Captcha-Solving Service for Blind Computer Users

Interesting how people assume the worst without evidence to support their
assumptions. I plan to take this developer at his word and see, if problems
arise, if he solves them. The service is, after all, in beta.

I wrote to the developer and asked about generating screenshots on a laptop
that doesn't have a Print screen key. He wrote back, suggested I check the
list of key assignments with the FN key, and offered to assist. So far, I
don't see evidence of a scam, or of a cold-hearted plan to rip off those
poor defenseless blind people.

Dean

Hello everyone,

And when they go to solve the captcha the characters will have changed.
They'll send you back the solved captcha and if you must enter them yourself
guess what. You'll find yourself starting over from square one and be out a
few cence. I can't decide if this is a captcha solving service or a scam to
rip off blind computer users. If the latter proves to be true it's a bigger
club to hit Web developers and screen reader vendors over the head with to
get them to eliminate this barrier for us. This captcha solving scheme
smells too much like rotten fish to me.

Actually, the site provides detailed instructions on how to create an image
file of the captcha that can be submitted for decoding. Basically, you
focus on the web page that contains the captcha you want to solve, navigate
to the captcha, take a screen shot using the Print Screen key to save it on
the clipboard, paste the image into MS Paint or other such program and save
this image as a file where it can be easily retrieved. You then log onto
ZCaptcha, locate the file you have just created and upload it to ZCaptcha
where a network of human operators is presumably standing by to solve it and
return the result to you in a few minutes. Each time you submit a captcha,
21 cents is deducted from your ZCaptcha account . Before you submit your
first captcha, you must register with ZCaptcha and add at least $5 to your
account using Paypal. Sounds like a paid version of Solona.
