[gui-talk] New Win 7 PC and Adobe Flash

When I downloaded Flash from the Adobe site, it said that the download
would contain both 32 and 64 bit versions. When the install was
complete Adobe reported that Flash was installed and running. I do not
know how, or even if there is a way that the user can launch Flash. it
seems like something that launches with the browser. The only thing
that I can say is that when IE is running, under tools/manage addins
Adobe Shockwave Flash Player is listed, and it says that it is installed
and enabled. But when I attempt to play any content that needs flash I
am told to install or update Adobe Flash. If i go to
www.updateflash.org, I am told that I have version 0.0.0 if there is
indeed such a thing. I wondered if there could be something in IE
security settings, but from what I can gather, that shouldn't be the
problem. I wonder if it could be something with McAfee but this is hard
to determine because MCAfee's interface isn't exactly accessible.

Andy,

I have not read all of the notes in this thread so perhaps I have missed
this, but are you certain that you have the right version of FLASH with
the right version of Internet Explorer and that you are running that
version? By "version," I mean 32-bit and 64-bit. You likely have both
versions on your machine.
On my computer, the 64-bit version had 64-bit in the shortcut name but
the 32-bit version did not have any indication. In other words, if I
ran Internet Explorer, by default I would be running the 32-bit version
and I believe the version of FLASH has to go with the version of Inernet
Explorer. You might need both versions of FLASH, in other words. Sorry
if you've been there and done that.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson
