As I mentioned, in my case it didn't stop all of the updates.  If it is preventing any updates from installing, it might be worth going in and finding that 
particular update and "hiding" it for now so that the rest can be processed.  Ignoring it is probably not a good idea if it is blocking the rest of them.  If you 
do a manual "Check for Updates" and then look at the list, you should be able to find the dot net updates.  In windows 7, you have to use the 
applications key and select hide.  I think in previous versions there was a button.  Then you should be able to run the rest of your updates and get caught 
up.  You can probably even leave it hidden since a later update may correct the problem.
