[gui-talk] JAWS 12 and Internet Explorer 7

I am in the process of learning JAWS, which my office recently installed
on my portion of our network. It is a very jumbled, piece-meal network
that covers most of the county agencies in Pima County, AZ. Our
office's (public defender) portion of that network is running Windows XP
operating system, and uses IE 7 as its internet access. My assigned
computer is an HPEliteBook8540p, to which is attached a separate 23"
monitor, as I also run MAGic and a CCTV on the system in order to do my
work.

I am encountering several issues, the most pressing of which are:

- at any given moment, without any warning, JAWS will announce
that it needs to close due to an unknown error, and

- Internet Explorer will also announce that it needs to close due
to an unknown error, often while I am trying to read a PDF document
(usually court transcripts which are filed on the Court of Appeals
website).

Obviously, this is causing extreme delays for me in getting documents
read and written, as well as necessary legal research for my position.
County IT has no clue what JAWS is, beyond having purchased and
installed the program for me. Our techs are trying to learn, but they
are not given much support by their supervisors, so most of this falls
to me to learn and advise. On top of all this, our office will be
installing an overriding, internet-based case management system in about
two months. I need to find a fix for these crashes ASAP in order to
keep being productive. Has anyone run into these types of problems? If
so, what worked to fix them?

Thanks for any suggestions - things are getting a bit desperate.
