Debby:
Actually, there's no perfect package. Spybot Search and Destroy isn't bad
but I believe PC Magazine says it misses some stuff. Frankly, almost any
package misses some stuff.
Now, the only package on my system is Microsoft Security Essentials and I
like it because it stays more-or-less out of the way. Moreover, I have come
to the conclusion that Internet privacy is largely an illusion anyway and
what with Microsoft Security Essentials and the anti-spam features in
Internet Explorer 8, my computer is protected about as well as it's going to
be. So I no longer use Spybot S&D, AddAware or any other package. I'm just
*very* careful what websites I visit and allow *no* pop-ups except at
trusted sites for the most part and have been satisfied with the results. Oh
yes; an occasional cookie might leak through but, as I say, privacy has been
an illusion for nigh on forty years so I don't worry about it.
And lest anyone ask, the only times my identity has ever been stolen were
when I lost my walet with credit cards. I'm not counting spammers who spoof
me; my computer has no malware because it's been off for the most part when
the spoofers did their thing. It would be a minor miracle to have stuff sent
from a computer that's OFF! (grin)
Mike
