This is a reasonable list.  I think nobody has run into this proprietary
reader program yet.

RSS is a method of "syndicating" content on a web site and letting you know
when there are updates.  IE and Firefox have RSS reading functions with
keyboard equivalents.  Microsoft Outlook (not Outlook Express) starting at
version 2007 can display RSS feeds as though they were a mail folder, so you
can launch these notifications from within Outlook.  I haven't tried this
function out yet.

RSS is also a method by which people can get podcasts when new ones come
out.

RSS probably won't help you read your local paper, because it probably is
just displaying updates to the minimal information you already know about.
