[gui-talk] Accessible Windows registry cleaner?

Sherri,

I also use SuperAntiSpyware and liked it pretty well. A repair of XP might help, but if your computer is working generally well, I would hesitate to do a
complete reinstall.

First, are you having any trouble with other web sites. Do you find you end up on a different site than you intended, for example? If you are noticing
anything like this, check your proxy settings in Internet Explorer. This isn't hard to do.

In Internet explorer, go to Tools, and choose Internet Options. This is a multipage Dialog. Get to the "connection page, and then tab until you find the
"LAN" button. Push that button and another dialog will come up. One of the check boxes there will say "Use Proxy Server" or something like that. If it is
checked, it could be causing the problem. Uncheck it and press OK. Keep pressing OK until you are out. If it was not checked, you might want to press
ESCAPE until you get out to be sure you don't accidentally change anything else.

If this box was checked, it is possible that some kind of program caused it to happen. This is especially true if things start working again. If that is the case,
make sure that SuperAntiSpyware is up to date. It is possible that hasn't updated either. Once it is up-to-date, do a full scan of your computer to see what it
finds.

Can you run a Windows Update manually? It is possible that, if you can't, that the Windows Update service is stopped. I can try to touch on that if that
seems to be the case. That can happen in the process of antispyware software removing a threat.

There are Windows repai functions that can correct many things without the loss of data. This might be worth a try but I can't give you steps to do this.
You will likely need to have the original CD's that came with your computer, though.

Good luck.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson
