[gui-talk] Automatic numbering in MS Word 2003

unless you don't want to turn off numbering in all contexts -- if you just 
want the numbering to stop in the current list, you can end the list by 
hitting enter twice.  The trailing number will go away and you'll have no 
more numbers, until you start the next list.

Word's automatic formatting-as-you-type is a pain to configure.  I still 
don't know how to embed a list inside a list.

I'm going from memory here, but I believe you can go to the Format
menu, then arrow down to Bullets and Numbering, then once in that
dialog Control Tab until you get to the numbering tab and use the
arrows to find and select the None button. I've had to do this several
times to turn numbering completely off, but it does work.
