[gui-talk] iTunes and iPhone

Actually, although this isn't the venue (strictly-speaking) for an extensive
discussion of this matter and, to a minimal extent, I share your disbelief
that this could have happened, I observe that this is by no means the first
or only time when engineers have let flubs get through the testing procedure
gauntlet (can you say Toyota or Tacoma Narrows Bridge?) and I also observe
that part of the problem lies in the mentality of users (shared by many on
this and other NFB lists) that they want their devices to do everything! The
iPhone 4 handles wi-fi, GSM and several other connection methods and there
are only a limited number of places one can *put* an antenna on a device,
especially if one is using at least three antennas. Personally, I think
cellular phones should handle *only* phone calls and should all have rubber
flex (known as rubber duck) antennas such as ham radio handy-talkies do;
we'd all get more bars that way. But no -- we gotta have everything in one
device. IMO we're seeing the consequence and the iPhone is by no means the
only phone with such problems.

Mike
