If you are in the last cell of the table, tab will create a new row and
position you in the first column of the new row.

If you need to insert a row in the middle of a table, position the cursor in
the row above or below where you want to insert.  Then press the menu key
(usually between the alt and control keys to the left of the space bar).
This pulls up a menu.  Press I for insert and then choose your action from
the sub-menu.

        Does anyone know the short cut keys to add a row into an existing 
table within a Word '07 document?  To insert a table is <alt>+N, T, but 
there doesn't appear to be an option within that sub-group to add a row.
