[gui-talk] iPhone

I want to hear more about the IPhone -- I think it is on topic for this list
as gui-talk is dedicated to discussion of blind access to GUI's.
I hear the the IPhone uses voiceover like the mac. Is that true? How does
a blind person get around the touch screen, or am I mistaken that there is a
touch screen? What if any are the controls like?
I know that a lot of effort and dollars have been invested in the knfb
reader, and the results are excellent IMO -- I have one and use it every
day -- but it has some deficiencies -- for example, I just discovered that
it doesn't speak case information when reading character by character. So
if you snap a pic of a password, you are out of luck if the password is
mixed case.
Anyway, sorry, I have ruffled the feathers of the knfb developers about that
and I believe they are considering it, but I am still open to alternative
technologies like the IPhone.
So if you have an IPhone or have seen one in use by a blind user, please
post.
Anyone else interested as well?
Thanks.

All,

About 3 months ago I got a brief demonstration of the new accessible iPhone
by a young lady who is totally blind. I was impressed with the speed and
ease she could use the interface and I vowed to find out more when I had a
chance.

Now AFB has just come out with a detailed review:
http://www.afb.org/afbpress/pub.asp?DocID=aw100502

Reading this review it is apparent that this device is even more powerful
and useful than I realized. It is actually stunning what Apple has
accomplished.

I haven't noticed any discussion on this list about the iPhone and I
wondered if perhaps there is another mailing list dedicated to blind iPhone
users. Is anyone aware of such?

Ted
