I will call them Monday and make them give me my email with log-in info and
instructions, is O can finally se this vaunted digital catalogue.

I have been sent a cartridge with a book in it, to play around with .
Actually, it was a worthy book, if you're into reading that genre. but I'm
not, so I jus used it for practice. I don't happen to have an extra thumb
drive around to plug into the unit, at least not at the moment, for the
method where you play the book by sticking the thumb drive into it. I don't
feel a USB port on the narrow, outer (finger hole) edge of the cartridge.
Do some of the cartridges from the library come with a USB slot, so that you
can download to a folder, then plug in a short USB connector and transfer
the file to the cartridge, and play the book with your mp3 player or thumb
drive sticking out ?

thanks.
wsuboook . But how do I ascI could add to it and slip it into the player?

You need to fill out the application on the site and if you have done this
call your local library and see why you have not received your user name and
password. After you receive this then you can download books. You must unzip
the book into a folder on your hard drive and then copy it to a cartridge.
Or you can copy to a USB pin drive to attach to the USB port on the player.
IS the cartridge you received have a book on it or is it a blank cartridge
for copying books too? Cartridges will be available for purchase soon.

If I recall correctly, one of our fellow subscribers is on the staff of the
NlS, so I'm asking this here.

I've just received my NLS player and, a couple of days later, a book
cartridge from my local Los Angeles Braille Institute library, for maiden
voyage purposes, so to speak.

I've learned to use the unit. Now the truth is that it wasn't cartridges I
was so looking forward to using, but the digital files I understand are
available for download somewhere on the NlS site. I found the USB port on
the side of the unit, near the headphone jack, also.

But the recorded instructions you hear by holding down the Play button
explain nothing about how to find digital files online, how to download
them, and how to play them using this player, although I understand that
this can all be done.

Where do I go in order to find such instructions, I mean pertinent to this
player and not something like a Victor Reader Stream? Is there a sign-up
procedure? I've been to the NLS site and looked through all the links, but
even the one labeled Read About the digital Program or whatever it says has
nothing about this topic, nor in fact anything about how to procure files to
play on any other device, either. I must be looking in the wrong place.

Please, is there a way to find out about all this? Or must I simply call the
person at Braille Institute who's responsible for this program and ask him
to explain it all? That would seem a little strange, considering I'd
expected a Web page full of instructions and maybe a sign-up form or
something.

No, I don't need to sign up in a basic way for library services. I've been a
patron, using the audiocassettes, for years. So that's where I'm starting
from.

Thanks very much.
