Hi folks you wanted a better idea of the newsline site so I am sending it as
a separate message rather than a reply since AOL 9.1 doesn't let you select
text. Well I find it's easier even then on the phone. When you first come
on you hit the link to log on to it, and when you're there all you do is put
the six digit access number and the security code just like on the phone. The
first time you log on you will be asked if you agree with the terms of use.
This just says you agree not to break copyright laws. when you Check the
yes radio button you get the options page. you can use the Web news on demand,
or the newsline in your pocket feature. There is going to be something
called a Key Stream available later this year. with the newsline web news it's
just like the phone where your favorites, the newspapers in your state, and
the state information channel and the list of all newspapers by state come up.
you can have the newsline email full papers, sections, or articles, but I
haven't tried that yet since I don't have a daisy reader in here. The good
thing is you don't have to read each article as you brows a section. When you
go to the sections list it will say something like "sports, 53 articles. you
click on that link and then it gives you links to each article with a little
piece of what it says so you know what you're about to read and to view the
article you just click the link. The newsline in your pocket is the way
you'll get the papers right to your victor stream. Our state coordinator says all
you do is download the software and all you have to do is hook the stream to
your computer and click the software and it downloads what you want. I
don't have broadband so can't use that yet, but I think Bill said the same thing
works with the book port. The site will go live for everyone in Early April.
Right now they're just beta testing to work the bugs out. A good way to
think about this is Let's say you go to national convention and you don't know
the local access number to the service in Detroit. even if you do, the Hotel
is likely to charge for a local call. They would surely charge you if you
called the Toll free number even if the number is toll free, so if you don't
have a cell phone what do you do? Well, if you have a note taker like the P
ac mate, the Braillenote or anything with a modem you can access newsline.
You get it with your favorites and everything in tact. Won't give the address
to it now will wait till it goes live for everyone, but think you'll like it.
I pledge to participate actively in the efforts of the national federation
of the blind to achieve equality, opportunity, and security for the blind; to
support the policies and programs of the federation; and abide by its
constitution.
