The popping you mention can be solved by turned the volume level below 5.

I have been a JAWS user for more than ten years also, and still use it at work. I now use Window-eyes at home because the later vversion of JAWS don't work well with my system and some of the

Programs I use regularly. There are definitely pros and cons to boht screen readers. There is always a bit of a learning curve with a new screen reader, and I still want to issue JAWS commands in Window-eyes sometimes. However, the transition wasn't too difficult. Overall, Window-eyes works well. I have not used technical support, but I have heard they are quite responsive. There is a Window-eyes user list and several people from Gwmicro are on the list and respond to questions.

I will say that simple things like changing punctuation level in Window-eyes is more complicated than it needs to be. In JAWS, you could make these changes globally. In Window-Eyes, I have had to go in to the set file for each application to set the punctuation to say characters like the at sign for e-mails, etc. There may be a way to set it globally, but I havent' figured it out.

If you're used to Eloquence, Window-Eyes comes with that synthesizer, but I've found there are some problems runnign it. There are some pauses in strange places and some stuttering and popping, at least on my system. I've gone back to the default Dectalk, which I don't mind. I did add quite a few words to the exception dictionary which were mispronounced.

Hello
I have been using JFW for 10 years but after this past week and them just not being able to assist me I am switching to Window Eyes. I need to know though if anyone can give me sort of the pros and cons between that and JFW? Thanks a lot.
Jess
