I believe it's being funded in the best way possible. The parent company
has deep pockets and if it's going to work out they'll bring it on line like
they have their browser.

So you are suggesting that it is more conducive to put money into some
public relations gimmick that basically benefit one individual rather than
doing something that would benefit thousands? And the NGOs get into a
staring match with rehab rather than step forward to do something.

One has to think about where one is going with support. NVDA is
interesting, but if one were going to put money into it what would be the
desired result. For one
thing, if we and others are putting money into it, it really isn't free any
longer is it? When would we stop putting money into it? The fact is that
technology is
constantly changing and the perfect screen reader can therefore never be
built. To keep a screen reader up to date even once it works well is going
to take an on-
going stream of money, and a good free screen reader supported by the NFB
and others simply leaves the rehabilitation agency and employers off the
hook for
providing some of the support for accessibility we need. If we have a
specific thing we'd like to see happen with NVDA or other open source screen
reader, such as
seeing if a particular approach to a problem is workable, then putting some
money toward making that happen as a proof of concept for example would make
sense
to me.
