Word might have made it more accessible but the PDF document worked just
fine.  They also provided a copy of Acrobat Reader on the disc in case you
didn't have it installed.  It was very easy to navigate with the reader.

Out of curiosity, how does having the manual in PDF make it more
accessible? IMHO, having the manual in Word would be more accessible
than PDF.
