Hi Sue,

Hey, is this the Sue with eye cycle? 😊 I think it is you. Any way I have a friend that moved here about 18 months ago. She worked for Hospice for years and years in Missouri and she has done a little volunteering here with them. Would you mind if I shared this e-mail with her? She is blind but is not on this list.

Subject: [Colorado-Talk] Advice with possible ADA compliance issue

Hello, I recently applied to volunteer with the Denver hospice. I had a wonderful phone interview, and the person I spoke with seemed very positive about me being involved and volunteering with this organization. I was all set to go and thought I was signed up for training, and I received a call from her, and the conversation was very surprising and highly disappointing. She said that their policy states anyone who works or volunteers at the facility must have visual acuity, and therefore, she said she was very sorry, she really liked me, but it would not be possible for me to volunteer. Of course, I explained to her about the ADA, and she said she knew all about it, and was surprised that this was written in the policies, and she said there was really nothing she could do, this came from the higher ups. I have pretty much lost interest in volunteering with this organization, but I do not feel that I should just let this go. I do not know if the ADA applies to volunteer positions, I am seeking advice and suggestions as to appropriate actions I should take. Please feel free to reach out to me personally as well, thank you in advance for any information or suggestions, Sue Schusterman.
