[Colorado-talk] NFBCO 2017 Priorities

Greetings everyone:

 

I hope this new year  is treating you well.  Recently, we conducted a
retreat for the NFBCO Board of Directors and the Presidents of our chapters
and divisions.  We identified five priority areas under which NFBCO should
organize its work.  The purpose of this email is to let you know about the
five teams we have created and to encourage everyone to participate in the
work of at least one of these teams.  Below I have listed the Team's name,
its Champion, and a brief description of that team's jurisdiction.

 

People First - membership recruitment, retention, and development, internal
communication

 

Team Champion, Melissa Green, graduate56 at juno.com

This team is everything to do with serving our members from membership
recruitment and retension to otherwise serving our members.  The team will
also focus on internal communications and events.  Additionally, one focus
area will be assisting us to put on a dynamic state convention.

 

Fundraising and Revenue Development

This team will focus on fundraising and enhancing our revenue streams.  It
will actively plan fund raisers and carry them out.

 

Marketing Promotion - external communication

 

Team Champion, Nate Trela, ntrela at gmail.com <mailto:ntrela at gmail.com> 

 

This tema is all about our outward presence in the community.  The team will
address the task of updating and maintaining our website, social media, our
publications as well as coordinating public events whereby we interact and
communicate with the public.

 

Public Policy

 

Team Champion, Dan Burke, dburke at cocenter.org <mailto:dburke at cocenter.org> 

 

This team will carry out our state legislative priorities as well as
implement national, legislative policy with our Colorado Congressional
delegation.  The team will also advocate before public bodies in Colorado in
a wide variety of areas from transportation to education.  This team will
also help our members become better public policy advocates.

 

Education, Rehabilitation, and Employment

This team will lead educational initiatives such as our BELL Academies,
Scholarship Program, relationship with the Colorado School for the Deaf and
Blind, and the like.  On the rehabilitation front,, we will continue to
support strongly our Colorado Center and work actively with the new
Blindness Unit at DVR.  Additionally, this team plans on speer heading
efforts to bring better employment for the blind in our state.

 

Above, I have provided the email addresses for our team champions.  Please
contact them directly to express your interest in serving.  Soon each team
leader will organize a conference call to explain the mission of the team
and start planning with its members.  In addition to identifying these
priority areas, we are implementing accountability measures to make sure
each team stays on track and that our objectives are met.  If you have any
