*Beyond Vision Skills Trainer*

*CPWD Mission*
CPWD works in partnership with people with disabilities to obtain and
maintain choices for independent living by promoting self-determination,
self-respect and equal opportunity.

*Definition of a Center for Independent Living*

Centers for Independent Living are consumer-controlled, community-based,
cross-disability, nonresidential, private, nonprofit agencies that are
designed and operated within local communities by individuals with
disabilities. Centers require 51% of staff be persons with disabilities as
well as 51% of Board of Directors be persons with disabilities. Centers
provide an array of independent living services, including the
core services of information and referral, independent living skills
training, peer counseling, and individual and systems advocacy. (

*JOB DESCRIPTION*

*Reporting Responsibilities: *

   -

   Reports to the Beyond Vision Manager

*Position Status:*

   -

   Full time. Wage. Non-exempt. (32 hours per week)

*Basic Duties:*

   -

   Teach older individuals who are blind and/or visually impaired, family
   members and service providers about adaptive techniques, coping strategies,
   and eye health in Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, and Jefferson County

*Essential Duties and Responsibilities:*

*    Groups*

   -

   Organize and implement monthly educational and social programs for
   Beyond Vision consumer groups with the primary focus on independent living
   skills
   -

   Assist consumers in learning adaptive techniques, coping strategies and
   eye health to promote their independence in their home and community
   -

   Encourage peer support and social networking within each group
   -

   Teach self-advocacy skills and encourage and facilitate systems advocacy
   where appropriate

*    Individual Services*

   -

   Provide individual services to consumers including marking
   appliances, homemaking skills, basic travel skills, and basic assistive
   technology
   -

   Maintain an individual services packet to be given to all consumers at
   initial home
   -

   Conduct needs assessments
   -

   Conduct assistive technology assessments
   -

   Assist consumers in applying for funding when applicable for assistive
   devices
   -

   Refer Beyond Vision consumers to appropriate low vision peer support
   groups
   -

   Refer consumers to collaborating agencies as appropriate
   -

   Refer consumers to other CPWD programs as appropriate.

*    Record Keeping*

   -

   Maintain completed CSR files on consumers – both active and closed in
   an organized and accessible format as specified by CPWD
   -

   Communicate group and group “call list” changes to Beyond Vision Manager
   -

   Communicate topics per each group to Beyond Vision Manager
   -

   Maintain accurate and timely paper and electronic records required by
   CPWD
   -

   Participate in CPWD staff meetings, program meetings and staff training
   activities
   -

   Perform other duties as assigned.

*Qualifications*

   -

   B.A., or higher, in Human Services or related Field
   -

   Minimum of two years experience working with people with vision loss
   -

   Experience in group facilitation and group dynamics
   -

   Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills
   -

   Ability to work effectively with professionals and with the public
   -

   Ability to travel up to 80% of the time
   -

   Knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel
   -

   Knowledge of Independent Living Philosophy.

*Desirable Qualifications: *

   -

   Bilingual English and Spanish
   -

   Certified Orientation & Mobility Instructor
   -

   Personal experience with a disability
