NFB-Web -- NFB Webmaster's List

About NFB-Web
English (USA)

The purpose of this list is to exchange ideas relating to accessible website design.

An accessible website is one that can be accessed by anyone. In this context, the essence of good design involves ensuring that a text alternative exists for every non-text element on the web page, tables are properly used so that screen-readers may parse them properly and contrasting colors are available for use by low-vision visitors. It is perfectly possible to produce an attractive, dynamic design that is fully accessible. Websites that are designed intelligently benefit everyone - not only people with disabilities.

Website design must be attractive to sighted visitors as well. Often, a sighted relative of a newly -blind person, or one who is going blind, will visit our NFB websites. It is important to provide a clean visual interface for these visitors so they will feel comfortable in continuing, with a feeling that the organization is indeed professional and worthy of further study.
