Description:



The Center for Continuing Education in Rehabilitation (CCER) is dedicated to promoting access and inclusion for people with disabilities through education, collaboration and connection to resources. CCER is a part of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington. The Northwest ADA Center (NWADA) is a program within CCER which provides information, training, and technical assistance on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to all constituencies within Region 10 (Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington).



CCER currently has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Director of the NWADA Center This position reports directly to the Director of the NWADA Center.



This is a lead position - providing support and management of the daily operations/work in support of the mission of the NWADA Center program and to meet the requirements of the grant and is the liaison to the NWADA Center affiliates and partners.



The Assistant Director is authorized to make independent programmatic decisions in support of the grant.  This includes building partnerships, providing training, developing/implementing curriculum, and the evaluation of project and project outcomes.  Responsible for developing processes to support the implementation of all grant activities and to ensure ongoing use of new procedures in adherence to Federal, State, and University mission, policies and procedures.



Supervises the NWADA Technical Assistance and Training Continuing Education Coordinators (TA Specialists) - organizing work schedules, training new employees, managing off-site employees, monitoring work progress and providing increasingly more complex tasks to support the grant and the development of employee skills. Responsible for completing annual employee performance evaluations and providing feedback/corrective action as necessary.  Provides training to other project information specialists at the Center for Continuing Education in Rehabilitation (CCER) at the University of Washington and in Region10, including affiliate organizations located in Alaska, Oregon, and Idaho.

Lead in providing consultation and technical assistance in complex cases, continuing education and technical consultation services related to compliance of facility and public rights-of-way with accessibility provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other -related federal and state requirements for professionals, businesses, state and local government agencies and consumers for a four state region (Region10 -Washington, Alaska, Idaho and Oregon). Provide technical assistance and training on employment provisions of the ADA and other employment-related federal and state statutes. Technical assistance and continuing education may occur by telephone, email, face-to-face or via distance education. Liaise with architects, engineers, building officials and others requiring specialized knowledge of accessibility-related standards and codes and transportation regulations.



Designs and develops curriculum materials for training and presentations. Provide direct assistance to the Project Director and the team to deliver training effectively and efficiently.  Conducts training on all titles of the ADA for individuals and organizations within the Federal Region 10 and nationally.  This training may occur face-to-face or via distance education.  Provides on-site accessibility assessments of building and other facilities.  Develops and completes systematic evaluations in order to provide useful feedback to sponsors, clients, administrators, staff and other relevant constituencies regarding NWADA Center technical assistance and training.



Designs, develops, produces and evaluates accessible technical assistance documents, web content, training resources and curriculum for the NWADA Center grant.



Investigates opportunities for funding and project development, including the establishment of partnerships for such activities.



Participates in appropriate professional development programs to keep up-to-date and informed of trends and developments in disability access regulations, rehabilitation, and other regulations/practices involving disability inclusion.



Leads and provides assistance in compiling data and the writing of grant progress reports.

Assists in writing and submitting requests for program training and research.  Collaborates with the ADA National Network.  Works with all staff at CCER to develop and conduct training programs and provide assistance to self-directed work teams addressing other NWADA Center and CCER activities.



Lead Responsibilities:

Manage the Northwest ADA Center Technical Assistance Unit, act as lead in providing continuing education and technical assistance services to all constituencies within Region 10 and provide assistance in writing grants for training and research; assist in compiling and writing grant progress reports as needed.



Coordinating the work of the NWADA Regional affiliates and partners.

Developing and implementing processes to support the implementation of all grant activities and ensure ongoing use of the new procedures in adherence to Federal, State, and University mission, policies and procedures.



Supervisory Responsibilities:

Act as lead for the Technical Assistance Unit which includes up to six full-time or part-time Technical Assistance Specialists



Minimum Requirements:

  *   BA/BS in related field and 4 years' experience providing advanced technical assistance, training, and other related services in an ADA or disability-related program.
  *   Ability to work independently, as a well as in a team setting
  *   Ability to manage multi-phase projects from inception to completion
  *   Ability to build consensus among team members
  *   Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  *   Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  *   Strong commitment to customer service and promoting access and inclusion for people with disabilities through education, collaboration, and connection to resources.
  *   Ability to  outreach and organize activities independently as an entrepreneurial self-starter
  *   Ability to travel in-state, regionally, and nationally.



Equivalent education/experience may substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.



Desired Qualifications:

  *   MA/MS in related field, and 2 years' experience in state Vocational Rehabilitation. Progressively-responsible experience in rehabilitation counseling, technical assistance, consultation, and training in the field of disability and/or employment services and/or vocational rehabilitation.
  *   Experience in development of curriculum materials and training syllabi.
  *   Experience in training, both face-to-face and distance.
  *   Expertise in Assistive Technology and use of multi-media platform.
  *   Experience supervising employees.
