Subject: Official Announcement - Dean

Good morning, all. The Governor's office has asked that we create an
official announcement regarding Dean's upcoming retirement. It is listed
below:

Announcement

Dr. Dean O. Stenehjem, Superintendent of the Washington State School for the
Blind (WSSB) has announced his official retirement, effective June 30, 2016.
Dr. Stenehjem has been the Superintendent at the WSSB since 1990 and has had
the privilege of serving under five different Governors. During his tenure,
the school has gone from serving approximately 65 students on-campus to
providing services to over 2,000 individuals through a diversified statewide
service delivery model that includes students on and off campus. The school
has been recognized by many organizations throughout the U.S. for its
innovative approach to service delivery and providing quality programs.

Governor Jay Inslee was quoted as saying: "Dean has always been an
innovator, bringing different partners into the school to launch new and
creative partnerships. During his watch, the School has received national
and even international recognition for developing programs that provide
specialized mathematics instruction to blind and visually impaired students
from afar. Working with private and local partners he helped students'
access career awareness and job readiness programs. Dean really embodied the
sentiment of Helen Keller's quote, 'Alone we can do so little, together we
can do so much'."

Dr. Stenehjem stated that it has been a tremendous privilege in helping
shape quality services in our state. He also says that most of what has
been accomplished would not have been possible without all the partnerships
that have been developed over the years and the great team of staff members
that are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of blind and visually
impaired students.

The Office of the Governor will commence a national search for Dr.
Stenehjem's replacement during the upcoming school year.

I hope you all have a great weekend!
