Rainier Transit Priority Corridor Improvements (TPCI)

 

Project Update - October 7, 2010

 

Street and Sidewalk Improvements Happening in Multiple Locations Along
Rainier Avenue S and S Jackson Street.  

Local businesses are open during construction and SDOT is encouraging the
community to stop and shop.  

 

Current Active Locations:

 

S Jackson Street & Maynard Avenue S (south side)

Work is substantially complete and the bus stop has been reopened.

 

S Jackson Street & Maynard Avenue S (north side)

Work commences Oct 8th  and is scheduled to be substantially complete the
end of November. There will be partial lane restrictions leading up to and
within the work area.  The Metro bus stop on northwest corner of S Jackson
Street and Maynard Avenue S will be closed.

 

S Jackson Street & 12th Avenue S (south side)

Work is substantially complete and bus stop has been re-opened.

 

S Jackson Street & 8th Avenue S (south side) 

Construction work will begin in the area of S Jackson St at 8th Avenue S, on
October 8th.  There will be a temporary a bus stop closure along with
partial lane closures approaching and within the work area on S Jackson
Street.  Work is expected to be  complete by late November.

 

Rainier Avenue S & Martin Luther King Jr. Way (MLK) S

Work is progressing in this area.  There are partial lane and sidewalk
closures near and within the work area. The overall project construction is
expected to be substantially complete by the end of December 2010 with lane
and sidewalk openings in mid-November. 

 

Rainier Avenue S & S Genesee Street

Construction work is progressing in the area of Rainier Avenue S & S Genesee
Street (west and east sides). There are temporary bus stop closures, partial
traffic lane closures and parking restrictions on Rainier Avenue S, S
Genesee Street and 36th Avenue S, near and within the work area.  

 

Eastbound S Genesee Street is closed at Rainier Avenue S and will remain
closed through October.  A traffic detour directs vehicles south to S Oregon
Street and north to S Dakota Street. The work is expected to be complete by
late November.

 

Rainier Avenue S & 39th Avenue S

Work has started and is progressing in the area of Rainier Avenue S & 39th
Avenue S.  There are temporary bus stop relocations, partial traffic lane
closures and/or parking restrictions on Rainier Avenue S. There are full
street closures on northbound and southbound 39th Avenue S within the work
area.  Traffic detours are in place northbound to S Hudson Street and
southbound to 42nd Avenue S.   Access will be maintained to businesses.  The
work is expected to be complete by late November.

 

Rainier Avenue S & S Orcas Street

Construction work has started work in the area of Rainier Avenue S & S Orcas
Street.  There are temporary bus stop relocations, partial traffic lane
closures and/or parking restrictions, on Rainier Avenue S and S Orcas
Street, near the work area.  Access will be maintained to businesses.  The
work is expected to be complete on the northeast side by mid-November and
the southwest side by late November.

 

Construction work is scheduled to begin in the following locations within
the next several weeks, and will require temporary bus stop closures or
relocations, and partial lane closures approaching and within the work area:

 

Rainier Avenue S & S Frontenac Street - - mid-October

Rainier Avenue S & S Brandon Street - - late October 

Rainier Ave S and S Holly Street - - late October

Rainier Avenue S & S Kenny Street - - early November

 

Local businesses are open during construction and SDOT is encouraging the
community to stop and shop.
