SUPPORT CELL TAX FAIRNESS TODAY

Key bipartisan legislation in both houses of Congress is a major step
forward for all wireless consumers. The Lofgren-Franks "Cell Tax Fairness
Act of 2009" (H.R. 1152) and the Wyden-Snowe "Mobile Wireless Tax Fairness
Act" (S.1192) are strong pro-consumer, anti-tax legislative measures that
will prevent all new, discriminatory state and local wireless taxes and fees
- for a period of five years. It's common sense legislation that could keep
you from paying even higher taxes on your wireless service. Contact your
lawmakers today to make a difference! Full

FIGHTING OUTDATED I.R.S. TAXATION OF WIRELESS

Does your employer provide you with a wireless device? Do you ever use it to
make a personal call? If you do, current law says you have to pay taxes on
that use. Outrageous? Yes! But, the bipartisan-supported 'M.O.B.I.L.E. Cell
Phone Act of 2009' (H.R.690 and S.144) would repeal that law, and the IRS,
Congress, and the White House all think that's a good idea. Contact your
lawmakers to support this critical update of the tax code. Full

CLOCK SHOULD BE TICKING FOR BETTER WIRELESS COVERAGE

The Federal Communications Commission is considering a proposal to put a
realistic time limit, or 'shot clock', on wireless companies' requests to
build new towers or add antennas to existing locations. This would force
local zoning authorities in cities and states around the country to act on
wireless provider tower siting requests that have been submitted - such as
75 days for decisions on a new tower site, and 45 days for decisions on
antennas attached to pre-existing towers. Right now zoning authorities all
over the country are delaying decisions on such requests, and some of the
applications have sat for years! Full

VICTORY FOR NEW YORK'S MORE THAN 16 MILLION WIRELESS CONSUMERS

Thanks to thousands of New York State wireless users who voiced their
opposition from all across the state this spring, the New York State
Legislature and Governor Patterson decided against raising local cell phone
taxes and fees in the proposed annual State budget. New Yorkers clearly
understood that in these already difficult economic times, the last thing
wireless consumers need is higher taxes on their cell phones. Full

DC VICTORY

The Washington D.C. City Council once again rejected a wireless measure in
Mayor Adrian Fenty's proposed annual budget, which threatened to raise the
current monthly E9-1-1 fee from $.76 cents to $1.15. That would have
amounted to a 51% increase on monthly fees on all wireless, landline and
cable voice (VOIP) consumers. Worse yet, the revenue generated would have
gone for general budget purposes, and not for improving wireless coverage or
service in the District for almost one million wireless consumers in the
area. Full

WISCONSIN WIRELESS CONSUMERS TAPPED AGAIN WITH NEW TAXES & FEES

Wisconsin joins a growing list of states raising taxes and fees on wireless
consumers, and using that revenue to help balance the state's budget. The
recently passed state budget tacks on an additional $1.31 in new monthly
fees, which increases taxes and fees on the average user's monthly wireless
service by more than 32%. This action comes on top of the state changing a
law to avoid giving Wisconsin wireless consumers a refund from a previously
imposed E911 fee.

WIRELESS SATISFACTION IMPRESSIVELY HIGH

A vast majority of America's wireless consumers like their service, oppose
more taxes and fees on it, and believe the competitive wireless industry
provides them plenty of choices. MyWireless.orgR recently conducted a
national consumer poll, and found the following: 94% of American wireless
consumers are satisfied with their cell phone service. 85% of those polled
say their cell phone 'makes my life easier.' 74% believe the value of their
wireless service is either 'excellent or good.' Combined, 90% said they
think that the tax rate on their monthly wireless phone bill should be
'lower or the same,' as the tax rate they pay on other general goods and
services, which is approximately 6%. 80% would like to see Congress pass a
5-year ban on all new, discriminatory taxes and fees at the state and local
levels. 83% believe that companies' competing for their business gives them
enough choices to pick what plan best fits their needs. 87% polled believe
that all government taxes, surcharges and fees should be clearly itemized on
their monthly bills. Read
