Research Title: No License, No Problem: Exploring Fully Autonomous Solutions for Blind and Low-Vision Travelers Beyond Traditional Public Transportation

Being conducted by: University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

Purpose of the Study

The purpose of our study is to explore the prior experiences and current perceptions of blind and low-vision travelers with human-operated and fully autonomous ride-hailing services (e.g., Uber, Lyft, Waymo, and Tesla Robotaxi, respectively). Based on our findings, we hope to inform the development and design of systems to facilitate more inclusive experiences that emphasize safety, confidence, and technological interdependence.

Role of the Participants and Anticipated Length of the Study

Participants will responde to a 10-15 minute online survey. If participants have prior experience with a fully autonomous ride-hailing service like Waymo, we will invite them to participate in a 90-minute follow up Zoom interview.

Proposed Participant Compensation

Yes, $15 for participants who join us for the optional follow up interview. Those who are interested in participating in the interview must have had prior experience with a fully autonomous ride-hailing service like Waymo ro Tesla Robotaxi.
