Dear NFBNET.ORG Users:
This is Dave Andrews, List Owner, and Web Master for NFBNET.ORG. This is not
a spam message.
Almost six weeks ago, our software provider, cPanel, updated the software,
called Mailman, that runs all our lists. Unfortunately, there were some bugs
in the update, which they have not yet fixed. They are aware of them, and
say they are working on them. They indicate that fixes for most of the
problems are or will be available soon, but we do not know when that will
be. We have expected a corrected update for a couple weeks so far, but is
has not yet come out. I can't say when this will happen, but I am sure it
will.
The bugs manifest themselves in several ways. Some messages contain random
characters, especially the equals sign, =, or others. Some messages come
out, completely unreadable, this is actually Mime-encoded Base64, and can be
unencoded with some effort, but is unreadable to a human. If you go to

data=wWsZSQmeVa4JKLnOB4OoND%2FufLCQTBPa8CW4%2BGDsI1g%3D&reserved=0> and try
to subscribe to a list from there you will get a error. There may be
problems with some digests, and moderators may or may not be able to approve
held messages.
There are workarounds for some of these, and not for others. For the
extraneous characters, and the Mine encoding jibberish, you can send your
message as an attachment, use a different mail program, or switch from text
to html, or vice versa from html to text. One of these fixes may, or may not
work.
For subscribing, you can still subscribe via e-mail, or you can write me at
david.andrews at nfbnet.org <mailto:david.andrews at nfbnet.org> and I will do it
for you. To subscribe to a list via e-mail, send a message to:
List Name-subscribe at nfbnet.org <mailto:Name-subscribe at nfbnet.org>
For example, if you wanted to subscribe to the student list you would send a
message to nabs-l-subscribe at nfbnet.org <mailto:nabs-l-subscribe at nfbnet.org>
The list name is nabs-l. You can see all the list names at

the first line of the two-line entry for each list.
For the Moderators, there is no workaround that I know of.
I feel your pain and frustration! This has been a huge problem for me, and
please know that as soon as fixes are in place, I will let you know.
As always, you can write me at david.andrews at nfbnet.org
