Dear Julie,

Thank you for contacting me about increasing public transportation options. It is an honor to represent the people of Southwest Washington, and I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with me.

Folks in Southwest Washington continue to share stories with me about how the high cost of gas is affecting their families' budgets and family businesses. High energy prices have forced many people in our region to start looking at alternative transportation methods like public transportation. I believe it is important for state and local governments to be able to determine what kinds of transportation options meet their individual region's unique needs.

At this time the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee is still working on legislation that would reauthorize transportation programs. As a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I am working to make sure any transportation funding bill will give local governments the freedom to determine what kind of transportation and infrastructure best meets their local needs.

I value your opinion on these challenging issues, and I will keep them in mind as Congress continues to work on the 2012 budget.

Thank you again for contacting me on this important issue. I invite you to visit my website at <http://www.herrerabeutler.house.gov/> www.HerreraBeutler.house.gov for additional information or to sign up to be kept up to date on these issues. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can ever be of assistance.

Sincerely,

Jaime Herrera Beutler
Member of Congress
