Keep in mind, when opening the New Outlook, you should turn off the virtual cursor if using JAWS, and when using your arrow keys to navigate up and down through the list of messages, when opening a message to read, turn the virtual cursor back on.

Good morning,
I tried out the new Outlook yesterday too, and my experience with it was not good at all!
They have some serious improvements that they need to do to make it easier for navigation purposes.

Interesting, I've never experienced this with classic Outlook. Moreover, I quite literally just tried the New outlook again as I hadn't yet with the latest December build of 2025. Same overall environment with no noticeable improvements.
In any case, good to know.

From the NVDA group, message #122381
<https://nvda.groups.io/g/nvda/message/122381>, regarding New Outlook:

I’ve encountered the following issue with Outlook Classic and JAWS; I didn’t try NVDA: when certain HTML messages are opened, the screen reader and Outlook become totally unresponsive for probably about a minute. I haven’t timed it, so that’s just an estimate. After that, the message becomes available for reading and navigation, and all works normally.

Since upgrading to the New Outlook for Microsoft 365, I haven’t experienced this issue, perhaps because the New Outlook is built on Web technologies, and uses the underlying browser engine’s HTML rendering capabilities, including screen reader support.

and from a private conversation I'm having with someone about New Outlook:

JAWS 2025 has a script for the New Outlook, if I recall the release notes correctly. It’s also invoked if the user runs Outlook for Web, as of the December JAWS update (again, from memory).

I don’t know what issues people are likely to run into with older versions of JAWS or New Outlook.
