[Trainer-Talk] Cerenade: with a screen reader

It would appear to me that scripting is needed to properly address these problems long-term. As trainers, we can unfortunately only do so much unless we have the knowledge to write Jaws scripts. For me at least, it goes above my paygrade.

Subject: [Trainer-Talk] Cerenade: with a screen reader

Hi all,

I have a client working with a legal system for immigration called cerenade.
The system is browser based but poorly labeled. Using Jaws custom labels, we were able to label some of the buttons that are in tab order. However, the checkboxes on the forms are the biggest issue. Jaws will partially read the information associated with the checkbox. It is visually beside the checkbox, but Jaws might read 5 or 6 words as opposed to everything that is there. We've considered adding a Braille display to see if any other
information is available, but I suspect that is a lost cause. Outside of
labeling every single checkbox in the 15 or so forms that the end user has to work with does anyone have any other thoughts or experiences with this particular platform. My biggest concern with using the Jaws custom labels is that several times a year some of the checkbox language changes and there would be no way for this user to know that outside of someone sighted indicating that to him and updating the custom label.
