Dear Veterans,
In the last couple of years considerable interest has been raised about the possibility of forming a National Federation of the Blind Veterans Division.
We have received a large enough response this year to go ahead and have a planning meeting of NFB Veterans in attendance at our July National Convention
in Atlanta. In the Affiliate Action Suite, we will discuss the needs of blind veterans, the availability of services, and what informed choice should mean
to all blind vets. If during these discussions, there is a consensus reached that the formation of the division would be of great benefit to all NFB Veterans
and their brother vets, then we will attempt to organize the division.
In organizing the division, we will need to gather names and addresses of all in attendance who wish to join the NFB Veterans Division. We will need to
elect officers, establish dues and collect those dues.
Being a blind veteran myself who has gone through the VA programs, I personally feel that our organization and our fellow veterans would benefit greatly
from the formation of our own division. NFB Veterans supporting their fellow vets on the State and National level is truly needed. The upcoming budget
cuts and continuous trimming of services with undermanned facilities desperately needs to be brought to the attention of those in Congress the way only
the NFB knows how to do things ... up close and personal!
I look forward to seeing you in Atlanta this coming July. Lets get this division kicked-off and make a difference in blind veterans' lives.
Respectfully,
Dwight D. Sayer
First Vice President
NFB of Florida
United States Air Force
