Hey, there was a gentleman who said that you placed a document on the floor and took pictures with the camera held in knee height when sitting in a chair. Are you legs very short? It seems that if the recommended distance is 10-12 inches or max one foot, then using your (personal) knee-to-floor method would give a distance of  about 50 cm or close to 20 inches.  That sound like way too much - but then again, if you are amongst short people...
