I have had good success doing a few books with it but only pages not entire books as that would be a little time consuming.  One thing I like is the ability to have it set to make each scan part of the same file in a multiple page document.  It can default to single page storage.

I personally don't have one of the primary non-portable scanners but I suspect those would be more ideal for book scanning.
