The on/off switch doesn't seem to affect the polarizers in any way. 
You can open and shut it, if you wish, without disturbing the
polarizers.
 
A case, or a skin is a good idea, to protect the polarizers though,
to keep them from getting knocked off.

If i get the reader though surely keep opening and closing the
camera  
switch would make the polwerizers come off?
should i get a case and keep the camera lens switch open at all
times
will
