So what does this "latex" skin do or provide over not having anything? I've
also heard some folks have cut the plastic part away over the keys?

If you use one of the latex skins made for the N82 you never have to take it
out of the case to use it. The only time you have to remove the skin is if
you have to take the battery out for some reason which happens once in a
while.

I use mine as my phone also and having it in a case would be awkward.
I have to access my contacts a lot for work, etc. So I'm hoping being
careful will work out ok.
